Meet the Team: Melissa Phan
Melissa Phan joined APEX Group, a Diverzify Company, as an account executive in July 2025. In her new role, Melissa will cultivate meaningful relationships with clients in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and use her sales and marketing expertise to help grow the business.
“Melissa’s experience in both business development and customer service makes her uniquely qualified for this role,” said Thomas Holland, president of APEX Group. “She knows how to elevate the customer experience while supporting company goals. I’m delighted to welcome her to the team.”
We recently sat down with Melissa to welcome her to the team and learn more about her, both personally and professionally.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m originally from Richmond, Texas, just outside of Houston, and moved to Dallas in 2015 for college. I earned a dual bachelor’s degree in psychology and child learning and development from the University of Texas at Dallas, and I’m currently working toward my MBA with a marketing concentration through Baylor University. I’ve been in sales for the past four years and found my way into the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry nearly two years ago. I haven’t looked back since! Outside of work, I’m involved with a few industry organizations and currently serve on the executive leadership team for Contractors, Closers and Connections (CCC) Fort Worth and on the board of directors for the Dallas chapter of the Association of Professional Women in Construction (APWC), both in marketing roles. I’m super excited to be joining the APEX team and can’t wait to support our clients and help the company continue to grow!
2. Why did you decide to join the APEX Group team?
I was really drawn to APEX Group because of the culture and the people. From the start, it was clear that relationships are at the heart of everything they do, both internally and with their clients, which really aligns with how I approach business development. I also saw a great opportunity for professional growth. Stepping into a new part of the industry is definitely a challenge, but it’s one I’m excited about. I knew I’d be surrounded by a team that values collaboration, supports each other, and truly prioritizes doing right by their clients. That combination of culture, growth, and purpose made it an easy decision!
3. How has your past experience prepared you for your new role?
My background in sales and business development has really laid the foundation for this role. Over the past few years, I’ve learned how to build strong relationships, navigate complex conversations, and create opportunities that drive real value for both clients and the company. Being in the AEC space has also taught me how important it is to understand each client’s unique needs and to show up as a true partner, not just a vendor. On top of that, my involvement with industry organizations has helped me stay connected, build community, and keep a pulse on what’s happening across the market, all of which I’m excited to bring to the APEX team.
4. What are your hobbies?
In my free time, I love staying active, whether that’s lifting weights, taking a Pilates class, or getting outside for a walk to reset. I also enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new recipes. I’m a big baker at heart and will take any excuse to whip up something sweet! When I’m not moving or cooking, you’ll usually find me unwinding with a good book.
5. What's the most interesting article or book you've read lately?
One interesting book I read recently is Betting on You: How to Put Yourself First and (Finally) Take Control of Your Career by Laurie Ruettimann. It really stood out to me because it focuses on taking ownership of your career and well-being, something that’s especially relevant in today’s fast-paced world. Ruettimann’s approach is honest, empowering, and a great reminder that prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish—it’s strategic. I appreciated how practical and relatable it was, and it left me feeling re-energized about personal growth and professional development, especially during a transition period in my life.
6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life, it would definitely be one of the Vietnamese dishes I grew up with, either bánh canh or mì Quảng. Both are comforting noodle dishes with broth, and I’m a big fan of anything soupy! More than that, they remind me of home, my family, and my culture. There’s just something about those familiar flavors that always hits the spot.
7. What's on your bucket list?
At the top of my bucket list is traveling to Vietnam to see where my parents grew up. It would be so special to connect with my roots and experience the culture firsthand. Greece is also high on the list. I’m all about the history, the views, and definitely the food. And last but not least, I need to see George Strait in concert one day. He’s a legend, and it would be such a fun bucket list moment!
